The United Arab Emirates has voiced strong condemnation against recent remarks made by the Houthi group targeting Saudi Arabia, which included threats of implementing a maritime blockade on the kingdom. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement urging the global community to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions pertinent to Yemen and maritime safety in the Red Sea.

Particularly, the ministry drew attention to Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen and Resolution 2722, which underscores the importance of safeguarding navigation rights and the freedom of movement within the Red Sea region. These resolutions are seen as critical components in maintaining regional stability and security.

The UAE emphasized that the freedom of navigation across international waters is a right enshrined under international law, specifically referencing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This convention plays a crucial role in regulating maritime conduct and ensuring the unimpeded movement of vessels across global waters.

In expressing its stance, the UAE reiterated its complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia, affirming its support for all efforts aimed at protecting the kingdom’s security and stability. The UAE’s commitment reflects the broader regional cooperation aimed at countering threats and maintaining peace and security in the area.
