On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued an alert advising residents to seek shelter due to reports of missile and drone activity originating from Iran in the region. The alert, which came from the Ministry of Defence and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), was issued at approximately 6:30 a.m. Residents were instructed to move to secure locations and remain there until further notice. Fortunately, the situation was quickly deemed safe, and an all-clear was announced shortly afterward.
According to NCEMA, no missiles actually entered UAE territory. The alert was a precautionary step despite a low likelihood of any direct impact. This proactive measure was taken amid rising regional tensions that have heightened security concerns across the Gulf.
In a related series of events, Qatar and Bahrain also took emergency action after intercepting projectiles from Iran. Qatari authorities confirmed that three individuals, including a child, sustained injuries from falling debris caused by the intercepted missiles.
The missile alert and the subsequent responses from neighboring countries underscore the escalating unease within the region. Iran’s recent declaration that the Strait of Hormuz is completely closed has further fueled fears about potential disruptions to global oil and gas supplies, adding to the urgency of the situation.
