UAE Highlights Technological Defenses Foiling Iranian Threats on Gulf and Jordan

In a critical assessment of Iran’s regional strategies, UAE diplomatic adviser Anwar Gargash has labeled Tehran’s approach of targeting Gulf states and Jordan as unsuccessful. He emphasized the urgent need for realistic and enduring political solutions to resolve the ongoing regional unrest. Gargash pointed out that the current state of “neither war nor peace” is unsustainable, advocating for an immediate reduction in hostilities and the restoration of normal maritime operations through the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks followed renewed Iranian aggression against regional entities amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

On August 31, the UAE Ministry of Defence reported intercepting an Iranian drone over its territorial waters. The ministry also dismissed Iranian media claims that Al Minhad Air Base near Dubai had been struck by missiles, asserting instead that the facility continues to maintain a high level of readiness. Gargash stressed that any enduring resolution to the conflict must adequately address both political and economic aftereffects.

Criticism was directed at a previous memorandum of understanding, which Gargash argued failed to offer a viable and agreeable path toward conflict resolution. The strategic Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of the dispute, with ongoing disruptions to shipping posing significant risks to both regional economies and global energy supplies. Recent military engagements have compounded the pressure on initiatives aimed at restoring maritime traffic and reigniting diplomatic conversations.

Gargash’s statements highlight the UAE’s commitment to reducing regional tensions and fostering a diplomatic framework that can restore stability and ensure the resumption of normal commercial navigation. The call for de-escalation and constructive dialogue reflects the UAE’s broader strategic interest in achieving long-term peace and prosperity in the Gulf region.
