A record-breaking number of submissions have flooded the Zayed Sustainability Prize for its 2027 awards cycle, with 10,233 entries from 177 countries. This marks a significant 32% increase compared to the previous year. The prize is dedicated to recognizing innovative projects that tackle global issues in areas such as climate action, health, food, energy, water, and education through global high schools.

Winners in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will each be awarded $1 million. Finalists in these categories will receive $150,000. Additionally, six high schools will be honored with $150,000 each, while their respective finalists will be granted $25,000. These awards aim to support and encourage the implementation of practical solutions that can bring about positive change globally.

The surge in applications, as noted by Director General Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, underscores an increasing worldwide demand for effective and innovative approaches to enhance quality of life. Notably, more than two-thirds of these submissions originated from developing and emerging economies, with climate action emerging as the category with the most entries.

The announcement of the finalists is scheduled for September, and the winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony slated for January 12, 2027. This timeline sets the stage for recognizing and supporting those who have made significant strides in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
