The penalties are even steeper for those caught manufacturing, selling, or distributing devices that facilitate piracy, with potential fines reaching as high as Dh700,000 and the likelihood of prison terms.
In a recent enforcement action, Dubai Police arrested a group accused of hacking into encrypted TV channels and illegally rebroadcasting World Cup matches through various websites and streaming devices.
